Osaka: Classic Breakfast at Ibuki Coffee (伊吹珈琲店) Near Kuromon Market

OSAKA

When I visit Osaka, I always make sure to have breakfast at a kissaten (Japanese-style coffee shop) at least once. One of my favorites is Ibuki Coffee (伊吹珈琲店), located near Kuromon Market. This long-established kissaten is also known as the origin of Marufuku Coffee, and its exterior and ambiance are quite similar to Marufuku.

Ibuki Coffee serves breakfast daily from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., including Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays.

A set: Sandwich with toasted bread and egg (玉子トーストサンドイッチ, 482 yen)
B set: Toast and boiled egg (トーストパン&玉子, 482 yen)
C set: Toast or boiled egg (トーストパン又は玉子, 463 yen)

💡 All prices exclude tax.
💡 Each set includes coffee or tea, with the option to upgrade to a café au lait or milk (+¥50) or other drinks (+¥150, tax included).

Breakfast Menu

The shop has four tables with four chairs each. While there’s a counter table, it’s used as a workspace and not available for seating. The breakfast menu isn’t displayed on the tables, so it’s a good idea to decide your order before entering. However, you can ask for the menu if needed.

The A set features a sandwich with crushed boiled eggs mixed with mayonnaise, enhanced by a hint of mustard. The sandwich also contains cucumber, and the toasted bread is perfectly crisp on the outside while soft inside. It was a delightful combination of textures and flavors.

The B set B Set includes a slice of buttered toast and a boiled egg. The eggshell is pre-cracked for easy peeling—a thoughtful touch. The butter used is quite salty, adding a bold flavor to the toast. It was simple yet delicious.

Ibuki Coffee is known for its rich and bold coffee, much like Marufuku Coffee. The coffee here is incredibly dense yet smooth.

While the shop provides two sugar cubes, I found them insufficient to balance the intensity of the coffee—it remained both very strong and very sweet.

I eventually added all the milk, turning it into something resembling cocoa. It was still quite strong for my taste, especially in the morning.

If you prefer a milder flavor, you can request “American coffee” (アメリカン). In Japan, this term refers to weaker coffee, even though actual American coffee isn’t necessarily mild.
