Soup Curry Suage is a well-known soup curry restaurant from Sapporo, and now it has opened branches in Tokyo. I visited their Marunouchi Brick Square location to see how it compares to the original.
The restaurant’s interior features a cozy design with a white and brown color scheme. It’s a small space with limited seating, but the stylish sentence written on the wall near the counter seats caught my attention.
Suage offers eight varieties of soup curry, including their limited-edition Suage Special. Here’s how to order:
1. Choose your curry from the menu.
2. Select the soup base: standard Suage soup or shrimp soup (additional ¥150).
3. Pick a spice level from 1 to 6. Level 4 is their recommendation and provides a good balance of heat.
4. Decide on your rice portion: standard, large, or small.
Finally, you can add toppings to customize your meal further.
Drinks. To complement the soup curry, they offer drinks like Sapporo Classic beer. Pairing Suage’s soup curry with this local beer truly brings the taste of Sapporo to Tokyo.
I chose the Fresh lamb and vegetables curry, paired with Suage soup and spice level 5. The curry included generous portions of lamb, deep-fried vegetables (pumpkin, eggplant, young corn, broccoli, potato, carrot, green pepper, and maitake mushrooms), mizuna, and a boiled egg.
For the rice, I opted for the normal portion and added cheese (+¥100). The rice, made from Hokkaido’s Nanatsuboshi variety, was complemented by red rice for extra flavor. While a slice of lemon was provided, I felt it wasn’t necessary.
The firm texture of the rice paired perfectly with the soup curry. Next time, I might try spice level 6 for an extra kick.
Another standout dish is the Suage Special, loaded with meats like Shiretoko chicken, simmered pork, Hokkaido sausage, and thick-cut bacon. It also comes with a variety of vegetables, including green pepper, okra, lotus root, and more, plus a boiled egg and mizuna. This dish is a meat lover’s dream!
I’m thrilled that Suage has made its way to Tokyo. Besides Marunouchi, they also have branches in Shibuya, Kichijoji, and Ikebukuro, making it easier to enjoy their delicious soup curry without traveling to Sapporo.
