Ginza: Exceptional Sea Urchin Bowl at Sushi Ogawa (すし小川) in Tokyo

Tokyo

Sushi Ogawa (すし小川), located in Ginza area, offers a valuable lunch set. They are a sushi restaurant, and while they serve sushi at lunchtime, their sea urchin bowl (uni-don) is exceptional. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves sea urchin!

Sea urchin bowl for just ¥2300 !
Yes, it’s inexpensive—and this is Ginza!

The restaurant has an L-shaped counter surrounding the kitchen, along with a few tables and a tatami room. The atmosphere is not overly fancy, but it’s cozy and welcoming, giving off a homey vibe.

They offer a variety of lunch menus, including sashimi bowls and sushi sets. The sushi looked delicious, but since there is only one chef managing everything in the kitchen, the service can take some time.

Lunch menu

All lunch sets include a small side dish. The sprouts had a flavor reminiscent of Korean namul. As I waited for my main dish, I watched the chef carefully prepare the sea urchin bowl, generously piling sea urchin on the rice. I couldn’t take my eyes off it!

This is the sea urchin bowl set: a sea urchin bowl served with miso soup. The chef recommends enjoying the first half with salt and the second half with soy sauce.

The rice is seasoned with red vinegar, and while the quality of the sea urchin may not be top-notch, it’s still quite good. The real value of this dish lies in the quantity of sea urchin you get. This bowl is perfect for those who want to indulge in a generous portion of sea urchin!

I estimate that it contains about half a tray of sea urchin. The chef would run out and bring out box after box of fresh sea urchin to keep up with demand.
