[Tokyo] Mogami-gamo duck ramen at Menya yoshiki (鴨出汁中華蕎麦 麺屋yoshiki) in Shin-Koiwa

Tokyo

I heard that Menya yoshiki (鴨出汁中華蕎麦 麺屋yoshiki) updated their menu in March. So, I decided to have lunch there with my friend after a long time. I like their ramen, but I rarely visit because the long lines can be discouraging. They are still very popular, but thanks to the blazing sun that day, there weren’t too many people waiting when we arrived. Even so, we had to wait for about 30 minutes.

Although the menu is available on the tables, you need to purchase tickets at the vending machine. Their regular menu features two types of ramen: sio (salt) and shoyu (soy sauce). Both are made with a soup stock from Mogami-gamo duck.

While they also offer tsukemen (dipping noodles), it’s not available every day. They announce the availability of tsukemen on their X (formerly Twitter).

I ordered the special sio ramen. Just by looking at it, I could tell it would be delicious! The sophisticated soup was packed with rich duck flavor from the Mogami-gamo extract. The soup is made with only duck and water, and although it contains a lot of duck fat, it wasn’t greasy at all. The subtle aroma of yuzu citrus added a refreshing touch.

The curly noodles had a wonderfully springy texture.

The duck meat was juicy, and the yolk of the soft-boiled egg was perfectly cooked.

And my friend ordered the special shoyu ramen, which had a strong, sharp soy sauce flavor. The duck fat added a nice mildness, but I felt the duck extract and herbal notes were slightly overpowered by the soy sauce. That said, the flavor was still great, and I agreed with the price difference of 200 yen between the two types of ramen. The toppings were the same as those for the sio ramen.

I still enjoyed the shoyu ramen because the sharpness of the soy sauce was quite appealing.
