Located in Kayabacho, Yakitori Miyagawa (やきとり宮川) has been serving delicious yakitori since 1969. I used to frequent it for lunch, but when I visited for dinner, I found it equally amazing. Since then, I’ve been going there regularly. Although they don’t accept reservations for dinner, it’s easy to get a table if you arrive at opening time.
Yakitori Miyagawa has branches in Toyosu and Yotsuya, but they differ significantly from the main location in terms of menu, atmosphere, and pricing. I would say it’s like a completely different restaurant. The branches are very stylish and feature many interesting menu items.

Next is the menu for grilled items and drinks. There’s not a huge variety, but everything is delicious.
When you sit down, an appetizer is served. Sometimes it’s already on the table. They always bring quail eggs with grated daikon, and I absolutely love this! You can eat them as is or dip them in the yakitori or fried chicken. I think they don’t charge for the appetizer.
The first thing I always order is Tori Sashi. It’s not completely raw, as the chicken breast is lightly blanched. The version wrapped in perilla leaves has a wonderful fragrance.
The texture is plump and juicy. Miyagawa originally started as a poultry wholesaler, so the quality of their chicken is exceptional.
Another item I order almost every time is Fried Gizzards. It’s no exaggeration to say that I go just to eat these ! However, sometimes I can’t order them because of my stomach’s capacity—it’s that filling! They’re crispy on the outside, with a satisfying crunch. Yakitori Miyagawa only opens on weekdays, and since they don’t take reservations, it’s hard to find someone to go with sometimes.
I’ve never had the karaage for dinner because I’m usually too full after the fried gizzards, but it looks identical to the one they serve for lunch. The crispy fried chicken is served with a tangy sauce and a generous amount of chopped green onions, making it a perfect dish.
I usually order something hearty like the fried gizzards and tori sashi, so I don’t eat much yakitori. But I don’t mind because I can always come back for lunch to enjoy a few skewers. My favorites are the liver and chicken wings. You can specify the seasoning, but they usually come with tare for liver and salt for wings. Each skewer costs 270 yen. Kikumasamune Japanese sake goes perfectly with it. I typically have a beer for my first drink and the sake for my second.
If you go with someone, I’d definitely recommend the zosui (rice porridge) – a friend said it was delicious (though I haven’t tried it myself…). But when I’m alone, I just can’t manage the zosui. So instead, I always order this chicken soup, which is full of meatballs and mushrooms, giving it a deep, rich flavor… It makes me crave rice :).
