Toyosu Forecia offers an array of excellent lunch spots, and Aoyuzu Tora (青ゆず寅) is undoubtedly one of them. If you’re looking for authentic Japanese set meals, this is the place to be. In fact, there aren’t many restaurants in Toyosu where you can enjoy a calm atmosphere along with traditional Japanese dishes, making Aoyuzu Tora a rare find!
The restaurant’s concept revolves around “Tsukiji’s Kitchen,” so naturally, the menu focuses on delicious, fresh fish. Operated by the same company behind Uogashi Nihon-ichi, Aoyuzu Tora also has a branch in Marunouchi.
Aoyuzu Tora is located on the ground floor of Toyosu Forecia. However, the area has several similar-looking buildings, and the building names aren’t particularly noticeable, so you might need to look closely to find it. The interior features both 2- and 4-person tables, along with counter seating. The back tables offer a quieter, more relaxed ambiance, and the staff provides polite and attentive service.
Here’s a look at the lunch menu: seafood bowls, grilled fish, sashimi, and tempura. It’s the perfect choice when you’re in the mood for fish rather than meat. Lunch is available until 3:00 PM, with free refills of rice and miso soup. During winter, they also serve fried oysters (kakifurai). A big plus—Aoyuzu Tora serves lunch on weekends and holidays too!
Since I had traveled a bit to get here, I decided to splurge on the Aoyuzu Tora Set Meal. It’s a dream set for those who want a bit of everything—grilled fish, sashimi, and tempura—all in one meal.
The highlight of the meal was the grilled black cod marinated in Saikyo miso. The rich, sweet miso flavor perfectly complemented the tender, fatty fish, which paired wonderfully with the rice.
The tempura selection, including shrimp, eggplant, shishito peppers, and whiting, was delightfully crispy. I particularly enjoyed the eggplant with a pinch of salt, which enhanced its natural flavor.
The sashimi platter featured octopus, sea bream, and tuna. While all the pieces were fresh and delicious, the sea bream stood out for its excellent texture. However, I suspected the sashimi might have been previously frozen.
