Toyosu Market: Oyster Ramen and Otonasama Set at Yajima (やじ満)

Since its opening, I’ve been visiting Toyosu Market 1–2 times a week. I’ve gotten used to walking 30 minutes from Kachidoki Station, crossing the Harumi Bridge. Maybe it’s thanks to the lovely view!

The liveliest spot in the management building is Yajima (やじ満). It’s open from 5:00–10:00 and 11:00–13:00. Weekday mornings at Toyosu Market feel quieter and a bit lonely, but Yajima is always bustling with customers. Many of them are regulars.

The interior retains the same feel as it had back in the Tsukiji days. However, the kitchen space is much larger now—almost too spacious, making it less efficient to work in. Most of the menu items from Tsukiji are still available, and it feels like new items are being added all the time.

The light blue counter and the pink and purple stools give the shop a cute and refreshing vibe! There’s also a two-person table near the entrance. Yajima has windows offering a view outside, and the seating is more spacious than it was at Tsukiji, making it easier for left-handed people like me to sit comfortably. What adorable taste in design.

When it comes to Yajima’s winter specialties, the Oyster Ramen is a must. Back at Tsukiji, I couldn’t eat it due to the long lines. This time, I added butter (+¥50) for an upgraded “Oyster Butter Ramen.” The broth was packed with the rich flavor of oysters—so much so that I wondered if it had always been this flavorful!

The thin noodles perfectly absorbed the oyster-rich broth, making every bite a delight.

The ramen comes topped with five plump oysters, each bursting with flavor. In addition, it’s loaded with vegetables like chives, wood ear mushrooms, and bean sprouts, making it hearty and satisfying. I found myself sipping the broth to the last drop. This is definitely a dish I’d want to enjoy at least twice a season!

If you enjoy drinking, you’ll love the “Otonasama set.” This plate includes shumai, fried chicken, and a sunny-side-up egg. In the photo, we added an extra egg since we were sharing it between two people, which is why the egg is served on a separate plate. The portion is quite generous, so if you’re dining alone, this dish paired with a beer is enough to fill you up. Both the shumai and fried chicken are absolutely delicious. Next time, I plan to bring a container and try the fried chicken set meal—it’s said to be incredibly filling!

While I usually aim to eat as much seafood as possible when visiting the market, I was blown away by Yajima’s stir-fried liver and garlic chives (=”Rebanira” in short). Just look at the vibrant color and generous portion! It’s the perfect companion to rice or beer. Right now, this is the Toyosu dish I’m craving the most.
