We celebrated a friend’s birthday at the long-established grand maison (French fine dining restaurant) Chez Inno (シェ・イノ) in Kyobashi! Founded in 1984, this restaurant costs over 30,000 yen for dinner, but lunch is about half that price. It had been ages since my last visit when I came for a charity curry event. The exceptional hospitality and cozy atmosphere really stood out. For those who find grand maisons intimidating, I highly recommend trying lunch there.
The dress code requires men to wear jackets and women to have collared tops. Shorts are not allowed, and both men and women are expected to avoid overly revealing clothing. There’s a bar counter right at the entrance, with the restaurant floor located further in.
There are four types of lunch courses. Note that a 13% service charge is added to these prices.
We started with drinks, ordering white wine on recommendation, and chose the 8,800-yen course.
First came the bread.
Next came the soup, a chestnut soup with a creamy texture. It was described as “cappuccino-style,” with a foamy layer on top. Rather than a typical soup, it felt more like a rich cream—silky smooth and absolutely delightful.
The hors d’oeuvres and main dishes offered several options to choose from. I opted for the lobster as my starter. The lobster was plump and juicy, perfectly complemented by a slightly tangy sauce.
For the main course, I chose the veal cutlet. The meat was incredibly tender, with paprika and parsley adding the perfect touch of flavor as garnishes.
The guest of honor, my friend, is a regular at Chez Inno. She was excited to finally try the “Maria Callas” dish they had been eyeing for a while. This beautifully crafted lamb en croûte was like a piece of frosted glass—sheer perfection.
As it was my friend’s birthday, the restaurant prepared a special birthday plate. It was adorable!
In addition, the course dessert was served via a dessert wagon. You could choose as many desserts as you liked—even all of them if desired!
However, we were already quite full, so we carefully selected our desserts. I picked three.
The dessert in the front had a wonderful nutty flavor, while the Mont Blanc was an all-time classic!
The herbal tea we enjoyed at the end was crisp and refreshing, the perfect conclusion to a memorable meal.
