To enjoy delicious Chinese cuisine while staying overnight near Yokohama Chinatown, I booked a room at Daiwa Roynet Hotel Yokohama Koen (ダイワロイネットホテル横浜公園). Daiwa Roynet is a hotel chain operated by Daiwa House, with numerous locations nationwide. Interestingly, there are two Daiwa Roynet hotels in the Chinatown area (possibly more). This one, located right in front of Yokohama Park, boasts a beautiful Western-style building. Originally built in 1938 as an office building, it has a unique charm.
This time, I opted for a room without meals, as I was excited to have breakfast in Chinatown.
The hotel’s prime location is one of its key attractions. Yokohama Stadium is right in front, and popular spots like Yokohama Chinatown, Yamashita Park, Osanbashi Pier, Red Brick Warehouse, and the Western-style buildings in Yamate are all within walking distance. Even Minato Mirai is just a 30-minute walk away. While 30 minutes might seem long, the scenic ocean views make the time fly.
The building is locked from midnight to 6 a.m. Guests can enter using their room key cards, ensuring excellent security. However, if you plan to check in after midnight, you’ll need to use the intercom at the entrance to contact the front desk for access.
Entering through the first-floor entrance, you’ll find a second set of doors leading to the elevators, which take you to the third-floor front desk. With three elevators available, I never experienced long wait times.
The lobby next to the front desk is simple and functional. After completing the check-in process, payment and key card activation are handled at self-service machines, which are also used for check-out.
While the hotel’s facilities are minimal, they include a restaurant (breakfast is buffet-style), coin-operated laundry, vending machines, and an ice maker. Conveniently, there’s also a Lawson convenience store on the first floor, accessible directly from inside the hotel, so you can grab essentials without stepping outside, even on rainy days.
I stayed in a Standard Room with a Park View, a double room measuring 18㎡.
The room was well-equipped with practical amenities: a desk, refrigerator, kettle, magnifying mirror, Wi-Fi, smartphone charging cables, wired LAN, humidifier/air purifier, air conditioning, and tea.
Depending on the plan, two complimentary bottles of Roynet water were also provided.
I appreciated the additional table separate from the desk. The provided pajamas were comfortable to wear, adding a nice touch to the stay.
The room had a unit bath.
Standard amenities in the room included a comb, toothbrush, and cotton swabs. Razors were not provided in the room due to supply shortages; guests could pick one up from the front desk if needed.
Being a Park View room, my window overlooked Yokohama Park and Yokohama Stadium, offering a lovely night view.
In the morning, I could even see Landmark Tower. Not all rooms offer this view, so if you prioritize the scenery, be sure to book a plan that guarantees a “Park View” room. Incidentally, I was fortunate to get this room by chance! 😅
