After enjoying lunch around Ginza, I felt like having something sweet. So, I wandered over to Pierre Marcolini Ginza Store. Pierre Marcolini is a chocolate brand appointed by the Belgian royal family, and this flagship store, which opened in 2001, was its first in Asia. It has been about ten years since I last visited before the renovation. The store looks so beautiful now. The first floor is a shop, and the café starts from the second floor.
As I tried to head straight to the second floor, I was stopped on the first floor and told, “Please wait while we confirm your seat.” Even if it seems empty, it appears you should never just go upstairs without asking!
The café spans the 2nd to 4th floors. I was seated on the 2nd floor. There were four-person tables, two-person tables, and a counter in the back. The seating is spacious. When I visited before the renovation, the lighting seemed dimmer, but now it’s bright and photo-friendly.
Pierre Marcolini Café features two main desserts: parfaits and waffles. Both can be paired with coffee or tea. The tea, from Betjeman & Barton, is slightly pricier than coffee. Other menu options include hot chocolate and savory dishes like curry.
They also have seasonal items.
This time, I wanted to fully indulge in chocolate, so I chose the Chocolate Parfait with Coffee Set from the regular menu. Since there were no prior orders pending, it was served quickly. The simple color palette of brown, yellow, and white gave it an elegant appearance.
When I tried their soft serve at Tokyo Station, I noticed how substantial it felt in hand, and this parfait was no different. The rich chocolate ice cream was outstanding. Other components, like chocolate cream, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream, were all moderately sweet, catering to an adult palate. The chocolate garnish on top was delicious too. Many people seemed to leave the banana aside, but I found it both substantial and delicious, reaffirming my love for the timeless chocolate-banana combination.
The café also provides an explanation card for the parfait, which I enjoyed reading as I ate. Though the parfait is petite, it’s quite chilly, so the warm coffee was perfect for balancing it out.
