Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu (牛カツ 京都 勝牛) has been expanding, and I’m thrilled that they’ve finally opened a branch in my neighborhood.
The interior features warm wooden furniture on a matching wooden floor. Seating options include tables for two or four, with a rectangular communal table at the center.
Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with value sets starting at under 1,000 yen. While beef loin cutlet dishes typically cost over 1,300 yen, there are affordable options available.
To enjoy your meal, the restaurant suggests “6 delicious ways to eat.” While items like Kyotama egg (5) and ponzu (6) are available for an extra fee, staples like sansho salt (2), soy sauce (1), beef cutlet sauce (3), wasabi (1), and curry sauce (4) are included.
Additionally, shichimi pepper, dressing, and sesame are provided to customize your meal further.
This is beef loin cutlet set. . It includes barley rice, a cutlet, cabbage with onions, wasabi, curry sauce, and miso soup.
TThe beef cutlet is lean, with the edges fully cooked. For those who prefer fattier meat, the Beef rib loin cutlet (牛リブロースカツ膳 / 1490 yen) at 1,490 yen comes recommended. While the slices are thin and easy to chew, the cutlet I had included some sinewy parts. However, the crispy coating was a highlight.
The curry sauce was rich and slightly sweet, pairing well with shichimi pepper for an extra kick. It also made a satisfying curry rice combination.
I tried the four recommended ways to enjoy the cutlet, and my favorites were the cutlet sauce and the curry. Although the beef cutlet itself was delicious, I found the portion size a bit lacking. I heard that during dinner hours, they serve a wider variety of beef cuts.
