Tokyo: Juicy Pork Cutlets and kakifurai at Ichikatsu (いちかつ) in Asakusabashi

Tokyo

A friend told me, “There’s a cheap and delicious tonkatsu restaurant in Asakusabashi,” so I decided to check it out. The place is called Ichikatsu (いちかつ). Apparently, it’s a famous restaurant with its main branch in Ryogoku. The restaurant has a simple and calming atmosphere, with counter seating on the first floor and table seating on the second floor.

It’s located under the JR Asakusabashi Station overpass, near the West Exit (the smaller exit).

The signature dishes include these three options. The standard pork loin cutlet set is only 800 yen! What a surprise. Other options include premium pork loin cutlet set (1,500 yen), shrimp fry, and seasonal items like oyster fry.

Since it was my first time, I went with the classic choice: the Pork Loin Cutlet Set, along with a single oyster fry. It came with rice, miso soup, and pickles for just 800 yen! Unbelievable.

My friend mentioned that the meat was perfectly cooked with a pink center during his last visit, but since we were seated on the second floor, it might have overcooked slightly during the trip upstairs. Still, the thickness of the meat was impressive. For 800 yen, it’s a steal. The crispy coating was satisfying, and the meat was tender and juicy. The cabbage was generously piled high. There’s salt on the table, but this tonkatsu goes best with sauce and mustard, eaten alongside rice.

Oyster fry. The size was decent, and it was juicy and delicious. They also offer an oyster fry set meal.
