Karatsu: Cozy Stay at Karatsu Daiichi Hotel (唐津第一ホテル)

Saga

This time, I decided to stay in Karatsu Daiichi Hotel (唐津第一ホテル) during my trip to Karatsu. It was affordable, included breakfast, and was within walking distance of the night-lit Karatsu Castle.

The Somewhat old-fashioned appearance and the name gave a comforting vibe. It’s a rather simple hotel, but very clean.

It’s about a 10-minute leisurely walk from JR Karatsu Station. The walk to Karatsu Castle takes around 20 minutes, and Rainbow Pine Grove is also within walking distance.

The hallway on the room floor felt neat and welcoming. I stayed in a single room. Although the building is older, it has been nicely renovated and doesn’t feel outdated. There’s also another hotel in the same group, Karatsu Daiichi Hotel Liber, near the sea, which offers more of a resort-like atmosphere. In contrast, this hotel has a typical business hotel vibe. I also noticed two microwaves near the elevator, which was convenient.

Hangers and a mirror are located here.

The room was spacious enough for a solo stay, with a luggage rack that came in handy. (It can be inconvenient when there’s no rack!) The room also had a desk, a large TV, a refrigerator, and a kettle. Additionally, there was a humidifier and air purifier, which added to the comfort.

Desk. It has a fairly large TV, a refrigerator, and a kettle. There’s also a humidifier and air purifier.

A set of pajamas was thoughtfully placed on the bed.

The unit bath was simple but sufficient for my needs.

From the room window, I enjoyed a charming view of a nearby temple. 🙂

Breakfast didn’t require a ticket, as it’s automatically included for all guests. The dining space had about 30 seats. I went early, and soon after, more guests arrived, quickly filling the area.

The breakfast area is compact, offering bread, rice balls, a few side dishes, vegetable juice, and coffee. It’s suitable for those looking for a light breakfast rather than a large meal.

The rice ball machine was a unique touch, and the rice was quite soft.

Here’s what I chose for my breakfast: rice balls, bread, miso soup, yogurt, a boiled egg, and vegetable juice. Afterward, I relaxed with a cup of coffee.

Karatsu is usually a quiet town, but during the Karatsu Kunchi festival, it becomes extremely crowded, and hotels are fully booked everywhere. If you plan to stay in Karatsu or nearby towns during this time, it’s best to book your accommodations early.
