Kusatsu: Soba, Yubatake, and onsen soft serve

GUNMA (Kusatsu, Kawarayu)

I arrived at Kusatsu Onsen Bus Terminal and had soba for lunch at an old restaurant inside the terminal because I was hungry. The restaurant’s name is Okame (おかめ). The staff recommended the Maitake mushroom tempura soba (舞茸のてんぷらそば). I don’t remember the exact price, but it was around 700 yen.

I didn’t like the soup because it was too sweet for me, but the deep-fried maitake mushroom was excellent. It had a crispy coating and a tantalizing aroma. Absolutely delicious. The restaurant offers not only soba but also katsudon, pork ginger, tempura, and more.

After that, I headed toward Yubatake. There were some souvenir shops, and I bought an onsen tamago soft serve (温泉たまごソフト) at Honda Souvenir Shop (本多みやげ店). I had been wanting to try it for a long time! It had the flavor of onsen tamago, with a slightly yellow color, similar to custard. It cost 300 yen. I enjoyed it in front of Yubatake!

There was also a foot bath near Yubatake, so I soaked my feet for a while. It was my first onsen experience in Kusatsu this time!
