Ebisu: Luxurious Dining Experience at Peter Luger Steak House Tokyo

Tokyo

In 2021, the renowned American steakhouse Peter Luger made its long-awaited debut in Japan. When it first opened, reservations were nearly impossible to secure, but now they have become much more accessible. You can currently book up to 90 days in advance. So, I finally went—and it was absolutely delicious!

Peter Luger has a long history, having been established around 140 years ago! Interestingly, this restaurant does not accept cash payments. Only credit cards, electronic money, and QR payments are available.

The restaurant has three floors: the first floor consists of private rooms, while the second and third floors have table seating. We were seated on the second floor, which, due to its high ceiling, almost felt like the first floor. The interior exudes a luxurious atmosphere. Given the setting, you might expect a strict dress code, but there isn’t one—casual attire is allowed. That said, most guests, including us, dressed up for the occasion.

The drink menu includes beer, cocktails, wine, and soft drinks.

And here is the food menu. The highlighted section in the center features Peter Luger’s specialty: steak. The price is market-based!

Once you place your order, the bread arrives. This bread is amazing! Three types are served warm. You can get refills, so even if you think, “I should save room for the steak,” you’ll likely find yourself reaching for more.

It comes with butter, but it also pairs well with Peter Luger’s steak sauce.

Peter Luger Fries & Sliders. This dish is a must-try! They are seasoned just right, making them dangerously addictive.

The fries on the side were also wonderfully fluffy and delicious. By the way, this is the separately ordered French Fried Potatoes.

Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail. Since there were three of us, we added two more pieces. These shrimp were huge! They were marinated, enhancing their umami flavor. The accompanying tomato sauce was, of course, excellent, but they also paired well with steak sauce.

And then, the steak! It was for two people and cost 32,000 yen. The plate was placed in the oven, and it arrived sizzling with butter. The server tilted the plate so that the butter gathered at the bottom. They then portioned it for us. This “steak” comes with the bone, and you get to enjoy both filet and sirloin.

We asked for it to be cooked medium-rare, and it was perfectly rare in the best way! It’s easy to understand why this place has been around for 140 years in America—it was absolutely delicious. The side dish was creamed spinach. It didn’t have a strong creamy flavor. If anything, it was more like an oil marinade. But it paired really well with the steak.

Since it was my birthday, they prepared a dessert plate for me. Everything was lightly sweetened, just perfect for after a meal. The key lime pie was especially delicious! Dining at Peter Luger made for such a special birthday.

I had it with a refreshing, light fresh herbal tea.

By the way, you can take the bones home with you. In fact, the restaurant encourages it. As expected from the environmentally conscious U.S.A.!

There was still some meat left on the bones, so I scraped it off and made a steak donburi. The bones also made a great base for a tail soup. Honestly, I was a bit lazy about taking it home, but being my birthday, I was somewhat forced to take it with me. I didn’t feel like doing it, but when I opened the bag at home, a fantastic smell came out. Suddenly, I was full of energy and made the steak donburi and tail soup!

Incredible color !

Experiencing this flavor was the best birthday gift I could have received. Thank you so much;)

At the checkout, I was given a coin chocolate. I ate it when I got home and savored the aftertaste while making the tail soup. I also saw these coin chocolates for sale at a shop on the premises.

They also sold meat, sauces, and dressings.
