Well, I made it to the ferry terminal, but I didn’t get on the ferry. Instead, I turned back the way I had come.

Because I happened to find a shop that caught my eye when I saw it in a guidebook, I decided to go there since I had some extra time. The shop’s name is Duchuan Touhai Zhi Bing (渡船頭海之冰).

It was such a busy shop!

Here’s the menu—everything is shaved ice!
Kaohsiung is really hot, even in winter, so shaved ice is a lifesaver 🙂
They mainly serve regular shaved ice, but for an extra 15 TWD, you can upgrade to snow ice. You can also add pudding for 20 TWD or ice cream for 15 TWD. Ice cream flavors include vanilla, strawberry, mango, matcha, chocolate mint, and chocolate.

Of course, I wanted to have mango, but the lady told me that they don’t serve mango in this season (November). After all, mango is a summer fruit in Taiwan.
So instead, I ordered shaved ice with assorted fruits and almond jelly. By the way, November is the best season for strawberries in Taiwan! It was absolutely delicious. The white topping is almond jelly.

The shaved ice was topped with papaya, strawberries, banana, dragon fruit, and more.

The watermelon was delicious, too 🙂

My shaved ice was a single portion. You can order anywhere from 1 to 20 portions, making it perfect for sharing!
A group near me ordered a massive shaved ice and looked really excited. Meanwhile, the family next to me shared two portions. That’s one of the reasons this place is so popular. They are even said to be the origin of giant shaved ice in Kaohsiung!

There’s something like that in the Philippines. They call it ” halo-halo, ” roughly translated, mix-mix.
I now searched for it on google 🙂
It looks yummy ! I really want to have it !
