As I was passing by Tomimatsu (鰻 登三松), a sudden craving for eel hit me. Without hesitation, I decided to step inside. This restaurant is part of the Noboritei group, which is well-known in Ueno.
The menu here is simple yet special. They serve “Ao unagi (青うなぎ),” a type of large eel, known for its exceptional flavor. Despite being open on Saturdays, they still offer reasonably priced dishes, making it a valuable choice for unagi lovers.
I opted for the Service set, available only on weekdays at lunchtime, priced at 1,773 yen (tax excluded). It includes unajyu (eel and rice), two small side dishes, pickles, and soup.
Although the portion of eel was modest, it was rich, fatty, and absolutely delicious. The rice absorbed plenty of the flavorful sauce, making it enjoyable even on its own. The sauce wasn’t overly sweet, which perfectly suited my taste. However, if you’re looking for a more generous serving of eel, I recommend ordering the regular unajyu. For me, the Service Set was just the right amount.
Of course, I couldn’t resist adding a lunchtime beer to my meal—it was the perfect complement to the rich flavors.
They also offer bento boxes starting at 1,200 yen. Many customers were buying them to go, and they seemed like a convenient way to enjoy their delicious unagi at home or on the go.
