Today is Midsummer Day of the Ox. We Japanese have a custom to eat an eel on the Ox day, in order to take nourishment and overcome the heat. But I didn’t eat eel today because I thought restaurants are so crowd. I already ate eel at Tonomura (との村) the other day in advance.
To my sad, the shop had gone out of their business. I knew that a few days ago. The wholesale price of eel is rising. So, Tonomura rose price, too. But it is hard for them to rise their shop price as the proportionate degree. Many shops gave up their business.
There were some people waiting. I could enter the house for 15 minutes. And I ordered unajyu and kimosui.
I don’t remember exactly when I ate unajyu last. Though I ate Unadon at Yonehana.
Unajyu is in a box, and unadon is in a bowl. Unajyu is more expensive.
This clear soup have eels liver.
And this is unajyu. They have 3 sizes of unajyu. The difference between 3 is only the amount of eels. Rice is same. So, I ordered the most expensive one. This is superfine (tokujo) of unajyu. The smell of Japanese honewort made me forget that I was in a small hut. It’s fatty and delicious ! The sauce isn’t sweet. It’s just for me ! And much sauce soaked into the rice. I can eat it rice without eel !

Aw, good luck finding more places with eel. I’ve never tasted eel but it looks delicious.
The number of eel is decreasing. You should eat earlier as you can 😉
Well, there’s no chance of me finding eel anywhere around here. Unless they’re at some Japanese restaurants.
I’m sorry to hear that 🙁
