Tokyo: Affordable Breakfast at Yakiniku LIKE (焼肉ライク 新橋本店) in Shimbashi

Tokyo

I had an appointment in Shimbashi on Saturday morning. Afterward, I was hoping to enjoy some alcoholic drinks at an izakaya. Unfortunately, I found that most izakayas in Shimbashi don’t open in the mornings on Saturdays (although many open on weekdays). I was at a loss for where to go… until I heard about Yakiniku LIKE Shimbashi (焼肉ライク 新橋本店), a yakiniku restaurant catering to solo diners, which opens in the morning and offers a great-value breakfast. I had heard of the chain, but I didn’t realize that the main location was in Shimbashi.

They serve a yakiniku breakfast for just ¥500! This special offer is available not only on weekdays but also on weekends and national holidays, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. (on weekends, it starts at 8 a.m.). Additionally, tamagokake gohan (rice with raw egg) is only ¥280! Of course, you can also order from the regular menu.

Almost all of the seats are counter seats designed for one person, each separated for privacy. There are also a few tables for two to four people near the entrance. Each seat is equipped with a touch screen, and the staff greeted me with minimal conversation. I ordered using the screen, but I had to light the roaster myself. As this was my first time, I wasn’t sure what to do, but the staff noticed my hesitation and kindly lit the roaster for me. 🙂

The Morning yakiniku set is 500 yen, and you can add extra meat for an additional charge. The photo on the menu of the morning yakiniku set looked like it only came with four thin slices of meat, so I decided to add some extra meat (50g for ¥100). The set also comes with a sausage, a raw egg or natto, soup, seasoned laver, and rice. Many of the other male customers were adding extra meat, too.

The roaster is small, but it was just the right size for one person.

The slices of meat were thin, but they were flavorful. I really enjoyed having the yakiniku on top of my rice for breakfast.

They offer several sauces for yakiniku. I highly recommend trying the garlic sauce—it’s a must!

Of course, they also serve alcoholic drinks in the morning! Since it was Saturday, many customers were ordering alcohol, and I joined in by ordering a highball. Yakiniku and highballs make a perfect match!
