In 2018, Okinawa-based Yappari Steak (やっぱりステーキ) opened its first Tokyo branch in Kanda, and since then, I’ve visited the branch in Monzen-Nakacho several times. The sound of lean meat sizzling as it arrives at the table is always exciting, no matter how many times I go! Upon entering, you’ll find a touch-screen ticket vending machine on the right. In Okinawa, it’s a tradition to enjoy a steak after drinking alcoholic drinks, which is reflected in the name of the restaurant.
Yappari Steak also has other locations in Tokyo, such as in Shiba Daimon close to Tokyo Tower, and has recently expanded internationally with a branch in Philippines.
Monzen-nakacho branch is located along Eitai Street. If you’re coming from Monzen-Nakacho Station, it’s right after passing the approach to Tomioka Hachiman Shrine.
The Monzen-Nakacho branch of Yappari Steak has a spacious interior with counter and table seating. The kitchen is located on the right side.
The table is filled with a variety of condiments, including unique ones that seem to be made in-house. There are so many that it would take multiple visits to try them all. I particularly enjoy the “Extreme Spice” (極スパイス)!
Unlike Ikinari Steak (a competitor with a similar name), Yappari Steak is considered a “steak diner,” and it has a casual atmosphere with a self-serve salad, soup, and rice bar. You can enjoy both white and black rice here.
While the salad mainly consists of cabbage and macaroni, the all-you-can-eat option is still a great deal. The first thing you should do when you sit down is head over to the salad bar and grab some salad and rice. And if there’s beer, even better!
As I waited, the steak arrived ! The lava-grilled steak sizzles as it comes to the table, with a paper cover to protect from the splatter. The meat is served rare, allowing you to cook it to your preferred level at the table.
However, I ordered Diced steak. These are bite-sized steak cubes that are easy to eat and perfect for enjoying at your own pace. Since it’s already mostly cooked, there’s no need to worry about how well it’s done, which is great if you’re a little tipsy!
The lean meat is refreshing and easy to eat, so it’s perfect for people who want to keep eating.
The most popular dish is the signature Yappari Steak (¥1,980), which uses misuji meat. But I often opt for the diced steak, as it’s easy to eat and affordable. Next time, I plan to try something else from the menu!
For those who are still hungry, they offer “extra meat” (替え肉) to refill your plate.
